Abstract: In this paper a 3-dimensional numerical simulation of the tidal flow, salinity and sediment in the dredging channel in an estuary was set up by the method of coordinate transformation, thus solving the treatment of the complicated boundary. This approach had been used to study the regulation work on the Lingdingyang channel in the Pearl River Estuary and obtained satisfactory results. The forecast silt content and salinity distribution are in good agreement with the field measured results. The calculated back silting volume after dredging in the first phase channel work by the simulation is very close to the on-site measured one.
