Abstract: In order to simulate the change of water flow and sediment of the Yellow River at region of fine sands, it is necessary to calibrate the model scale of the study river. The physical model design has been carried out according to the characteristics of the Yellow River by applying the updated model similarity principles. The coal power is selected as the model sediment material, which is easy to move and has stable behavior for satisfying the needs of model test in long series. It is shown that the model can well repeat the prototype river deformation and sediment regime.
