Abstract: Local erosion near bridge's pierces is caused by complex three-dimensional flow in its basis. Because of turbulent boundary layer's tearing off the pierce a horse-shoe-shaped whirlpool of great destroy ability arises at a distance from a pierce in a zone of positive gradients of pressure at the basis of the pierce. To prevent a ground erosion caused by whirlpool's action some methods can be applied. They can be divided on passive and active. The passive methods are provided protection of a ground from the whirlpool's action. For selection of protection's method it is necessary to be able reliably define the velocity field in the specified zone. Available phenomenological models of this phenomenon [1,2, 3] contain a set of constants, which can be determined from the experimental data. The first part of the work demonstrates the practical opportunity of such procedure basing of computing experiment and reliable experienced data [4]. The second part of the work is devoted to investigation of offered by the author active method of influence on the original cause of the negative phenomenon using the boundary layer's sucking off using the special device.
