Abstract: The significance and function of 3D virtual simulation technique for long distance water transfer project is discussed herein. For the character of such a project, the emphases and difficulties of the 3D virtualization simulation system are put forward. Combined with the Project of Water Transfer from Bohai Sea to Xilin Gol of Inner Mongolia, some key techniques and implement methods such as large scale terrain modeling, data-base management of large terrain and real time rending, real time interaction and information management are expatiated. The virtual simulation system for the project mentioned above can realize the functions of scene cruise and switch, space positioning, planar navigation and real time information query, and then can also provide an assistant platform for the planning, construction and management of the project concerned.
