Abstract: Competitive adsorption in porous media occurs in many different areas of science and engineering. Understanding competitive adsorption on the pore scale provides insight into how the porous microstructure and the local conditions effect the overall distribution of species. A smoothed particle hydrodynamics model of competitive adsorption in porous media has been developed, which includes the gas diffusion, advection and surface adsorption of species. The model investigates the effects of the Peclet number and relative reaction rates on the dispersion of a plume of two competitively adsorbing species in a porous medium.
