Abstract: The spectral density functions for the hydrodynamic forces on bed material, based on the quasi-steady force-generating mechanism, have been derived. This function was used to check whether the quasi-steady mechanism is responsible for the forces on bed particle. From the measurements it was deduced that the quasi-steady spectral model performs well for all particle exposures except for that of a fully shielded sphere under uniform flow. The power spectrum of drag force measurement shows a bulge in the frequency range of 1 to 10 Hz due to eddy shedding at these frequencies. A function, based on Strouhal frequency, has been applied in this range to predict the force spectrum up to 20 Hz.
