Abstract: In this study, to determine the safe region for fish habitat structure, an experimental investigation was carried out in a laboratory flume with 0.5 m width and 0.4m height. The safe region for fish habitat is defined here as the region where velocity is equal to or less than zero value. To simulate natural conditions, a quarter-sphere made of concrete with 13 cm diameter was installed at the bed of flume. The flow velocity in two plane directions was measured using electromagnetic velocity meter. To find the safe region, the stream lines were drawn. The location and size of safe region was determined under different flow conditions. Finally, it was found that, close to the body, safe region is located very close to the bed. Also, far away from the quarter-sphere body, safe region is located from the bed to the upper layers and as moving toward the body top, safe region area decreases.
