Abstract: Mobile bed tests are a useful tool for hydraulics and sediment transport since many of the underlying processes (for example incipient motion or sediment re-suspension) are still poorly known Mobile bed tests reproduce sediment dynamics occurring in the field under controlled "drivers” and a reduced scale. The reduction in scale is normally different for vertical and horizontal dimensions while the larger scale tests are commonly carried out in 2DV wave flumes which only reproduce conditions for an alongshore uniform beach. The coupling between fluid motion, sediment fluxes and the resulting bed evolution, which are continuously interacting, are still far from been well understood, which highlights the need for more fundamental knowledge and observations under controlled conditions.
