Abstract: An experimental study of the effects of blockage ratio, approach flow inclination and approach velocity on energy loss through submerged trashrack models is reported. The trashrack models were comprised of an array of rectangular bars that were placed in rectangular conduit. The tests were performed for both straight and oblique approach flows. Pressure measurements were made using several piezometer taps that were inserted along the centerline of the conduit sidewall. The pressure head differences at far upstream and downstream of the trashrack models were then obtained to study the effects of approach velocity, approach flow inclination and blockage ratio on head loss. The results show that the head loss increases with increasing approach velocity, approach flow inclination and blockage ratio.
