Abstract: The present paper deals with the upgrade and evaluation of flood protection structures in an alpine valley located in Tyrol (Austria). Focus is put on multifunctional structures that are used for flood protection as well as for hydropower generation. More than 50 tributaries to the main receiving water course are modeled by a spatially distributed hydrological model and linked to a 1D hydraulic model of the main river. Both models are run and calibrated collectively using several gauging stations. 2D numerical models cover the local flood plain assessment of densely settled areas, serving for the subsequent impact evaluation and cost benefit analysis. All simulations include bed-load transport. Thus, in the paper the model building for hydraulics and sediment routing is shown and discussed. First results are presented showing the impact of flood mitigation measures on the river hydraulics.
