Abstract: IIHR-Hydroscience & Engineering recently celebrated the 10t h year of its hallmark study abroad course, International Perspectives in Water Science & Management (IP). Each IP course offering focuses on a different country or world region that students visit for 2½ to 3 weeks for in-depth exposure to technical, historical, cultural, social, economic, ethical, and environmental issues that impact planning and execution of water-related projects in that region. Students are introduced to the realities and complexities of water-related issues in a world in which many water resources transcend political boundaries. To date, eight course offerings of IP have taken 110 students to seven different countries/regions. Participants in the latest course, which traveled to Egypt December 2008-January 2009, were surveyed prior to their international experience to evaluate their expectations and perceived level of preparedness, and post-trip to evaluate their experience. Comparison to other study abroad courses and evaluation results demonstrate that IP is a successful model that achieves its educational and experiential goals.
