Abstract: The assessment of the effectiveness of Flood Probability Reduction Measures (FPRM) such as Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS) is not systematically verified and their practice is not well established yet. Diverse software tools enable the simulation of SUDS techniques, whereas most of these modules are still in the developing and verification phase. Within this paper the theoretical approach for SUDS modelling based on the combination of swales and filter drains has been introduced and its implementation into the Open Source software Kalypso Hydrology described. The model has been validated and verified in the case study in Garforth (West Yorkshire, UK), which qualifies it for more systematic application in modelling SUDS in flood risk management.
