Abstract: Based on the transformation between canal and groundwater, the influencing features of main canal of the Middle Route of South-to-North Water Diversion Project on groundwater were analyzed under two special conditions including deep excavation and high groundwater level. Furthermore, the three-dimensional numerical model for Cixian section was set up to simulate the variation courses of groundwater table in some hypothesis. The results showed that: 1) for the basin, the project laying across the phreatic aquifer of the North China Plain would not affect the recharge and the flow direction of groundwater; 2) for the canal excavation in high groundwater level, blocking groundwater discharge and causing the fluctuation of groundwater level would bring potential risk on the engineering safety and regional eco-environmental impact; 3) depending on hydrogeologic conditions, confined aquifer would be influenced.
