Abstract: Climate data, including rainfall, are important inputs into catchment scale hydrological models. This paper investigates two approaches for generating climate data as an input into a catchment scale rainfall runoff model. Both methods utilised splining and kriging techniques to spatially determine climate data, but the application of these techniques was different. The two methods investigated were (1) SILO 5km gridded data (Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Environment), and (2) CATCLIM which scales raw point-source climate station data (Bureau of Meteorology) by an interpolated mean-annual spatial layer developed using the ANUClim software to generate 100m gridded climate data. Both methods were then spatially averaged over sub-catchment areas within the Ovens river catchment, North East Victoria, Australia to provide inputs into a rainfall runoff model. This paper presents a detailed analysis of rainfall and predicted runoff using the two methods.
