Abstract: The implementation, calibration, and exploitation of a physically-based, integrated surfacegroundwater hydrologic model for the Matanza-Riachuelo Basin, in Argentina, are described. The introduction of urbanization effects is explained. The impacts of urbanization on the phreatic and confined aquifers groundwater heads are fully addressed through experimentation with the model. The obtained results are significant for decision-making regarding possible remediation works to deal with the present problems (high phreatic levels, groundwater quality), or the sustainability of new urban and industrial developments.
