Abstract: The interactions between fishes and turbulence parameters are crucial for successful passage through a fishway. The present research aims to define the effects of vertical slot fishway dimensions on water velocity and turbulence behaviours. Estimates of turbulence kinetic energy dissipation rate are computed directly from two components Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) data. Combined with low order decomposition of the flow kinetic by Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD), the flow organizations and evolutions, the dominant structures of a flow, the spatio-temporal dynamics and flow regions which could represent barriers for fishes are emphasized.
