Abstract: Recently, fishery products have been decreased due to disappearance of Zostera beds and aggravation of water quality. The Zostera marina in Seagrass, is especially important for marine resources as spawning and nursery grounds. In Japan, although a number of Zostera beds developments have been conducted as political projects. There are few appropriate methods to enroot Zostera beds. Therefore, it is necessary to specify the preserving condition of Zostera beds. In Tsuda bay located at eastern part of the Seto Inland Sea, planted Zostera beds have been preserved behind the detached breakwater for over ten years. In this study, we evaluate the transfer mechanism of Zostera seeds from the Zostera beds by applying conditions such as sinking velocity of seeds and tidal current around the detached breakwater into three-dimensional hydrodynamical models. As a result, we examined the appropriate area and new construction method of detached breakwaters for preservation of Zostera beds.
