Abstract: A simple one dimensional two-equation model has been applied to predict the tidal flow measured by King et al. (1985). The tidal velocity ellipses and the time series of the horizontal velocity components, at a given elevation above the bottom, are well predicted through the water column. There are some deviations between the predicted and measured velocities near the bottom due to the uncertainty of the bottom roughness, but overall the field measurements are well predicted. This confirms that such flows can be predicted by a relative simple boundary layer model provided that the turbulence is properly accounted for. The latter is essential because previous simulations using various constant eddy viscosities reveal that these field measurements cannot be well predicted without a dynamic turbulence model.
