Abstract: Design flood events are strongly influenced by seasonality in south-west Western Australia. This region is also known to be dominated by potentially high baseflow contributions during large flood events. What proportion of baseflow to use in design has limited understanding, especially in the large to extreme flood range. Subsequent financial and risk ramifications could be significant. Utilising the extensive database and analysis of flood events within Project 7 of the Australian Rainfall and Runoff update, seasonal baseflows have been extracted and assessed for south-west Western Australia. Regional seasonal (summer and winter) baseflows were analysed, in line with Project 7, and compared with the annual results from Project 7.
