Abstract: A Fuzzy optimization model is proposed herein, which is converted to deterministic optimization problem by considering relationship between fuzzy demands and fuzzy nodal heads. This relationship provides bounds on minimum and maximum value of the nodal heads for maximum and minimum demands respectively. Genetic Algorithm is used as an optimization tool to find feasible solutions. The proposed methodology is illustrated through a benchmark problem and the results are compared with those obtained by other researchers. It is interesting to note that, there is no feasible solution possible to the example network with links consisting of single size from the list of available pipe sizes. The problem is also solved by dropping bounds on maximum value of nodal heads as usually considered in design of networks. The network design is obtained for various α-cuts (uncertainty levels) to obtain the trade-off of cost of network with uncertainty levels.
