Abstract: In Japan, locally heavy rainfalls have been frequently observed in recent years. Such rainfalls sometimes cause severe accidents which wash human away in the river. From the viewpoint of the disaster prevention, it is important to predict the fluid force acting on the human body from water flow. A three-dimensional numerical analysis code has been developed for predicting the fluid force acting on the human body. This code has the following main features: (1) It considers fluid flow as a three-dimensional incompressible fluid flow, (2) it employs the VOF method for water-surface analysis, and (3) it can treat a complex shape of human body exactly. Applying this method to hydraulic experiments, we got appropriate results about the fluid force. It is concluded that we can estimate the hydrodynamic force acting on the human body from water flow.
