Abstract: Within the course of bedload monitoring tasks in Austria, measurements with two different mobile basket samplers have been undertaken, covering a wide range of river types ranging from a steep mountain torrent to large gravel-bed rivers. The conducted basket sampler measurements form an inseparable component of integrative bedload monitoring systems, including also bedload-traps and geophones. The diversity of the monitoring sites enables determining the operational range and the validity of basket samplers and reveals the specific restrictions concerning mobility, sampling duration, hydraulic efficiency and grain size determination for the used sampler types. The integration of the different methods used in the integrative measurement system, provides high quality and continuous data sets especially during flood events, while this work is focused on the results achieved with the mobile basket samplers. The paper demonstrates these reviewed results as well as the general and specific possibilities and restrictions of the basket sampler types.
