Abstract: Nowadays it is popular to conquer large bottom steps in rivers with so called block ramps. These give nature like solutions with climb possibilities for fishes and adequate energy dissipation. German guidelines are dealing with constant drag coefficients to calculate forces on a single boulder and the total loss coefficient on the ramp. Investigations on a scaled physical model show that the drag coefficients vary in a larger range, depending on the arrangement of the boulders, the slope etc. This paper is dealing with a physical model with varying boulder configurations, slopes and discharges. Forces on the boulders are measured directly and drag coefficients are calculated.
