Abstract: In this study, a setup of sloshing experiment driven by an irregular wave-maker has been developed for investigating non-linear behaviour of liquid sloshing in a rectangular tank and the baffles damping effects. First, liquid sloshing in a rectangular tank without and with vertical baffle under the harmonic excitation are investigated numerically and experimentally. Good agreements are obtained from the comparisons between the numerical results and experimental data. Next, a modified JONSWAP spectrum is chosen as an input spectrum of the irregular wave-maker to generate a random motion of the tank. The time histories of the free surface elevation at different positions in the tank without and with vertical baffle under different irregular wave excitations are measured. The damping effects of the vertical baffle are discussed under different irregular wave excitations.
