Abstract: Firstly the problems in characterising phreatic and confined phreatic aquifers are addressed. Having identified the difficulties commonly arising in accurately determining the anisotropy of an aquifer, in specific conditions and with normal analytical methods, reference is made to a method proposed by Boulton (1970) to determine this parameter and to the suitability of using it in a modified version, as reported in a previous paper, allowing its use with a single piezometer. Later, after having briefly described the test field at Montalto Uffugo and the salient geological features of the area, reference is made to results obtained in a previous survey carried out on this test field, where this methodology was applied considering 3 observation wells at different distances and aligned with a pumping well. Finally, the results of a new experimental survey are presented, carried out at the same test field, applying the cited methodology and considering a single observation well, before repeating the procedure separately, for testing, on another observation well; these wells were both different from those considered in the previous survey, although taking into account pumping from the same fully penetrating well. This recent survey has allowed the verification of the previously obtained results.
