Abstract: Periphyton dynamics is characterized by the competition between immigration, growing and detachment processes, which are, among others, controlled by near-substrate hydrodynamics. In this paper, we have developed a mechanistic model of periphyton biomass dynamics, adapted from the model of Uehlinger et al. (1996), including turbulence scales as variables. This model has shown a good fit to laboratory databases.
