Abstract: Several years ago the Institute of Hydraulic Engineering of the Vienna University of Technology has started a research project with the aim of finding a one-dimensional relation in order to determine pondage due to non-submerged groins whereby the bed is a fixed bed and floor roughness, discharge, gradient, interval and length of the groins are taken into consideration. The study is based on 12,000 basic tests in the channel of the Laboratory of Hydraulic Engineering of the Vienna University of Technology aimed at analyzing the effects groins have on the water level under varying conditions in a physical model.
