Abstract: Block ramps are naturalistic stream restoration structures used to conduct water method ofprotecting soil surface maintaining a stable slope. to a lowerelevation producing high dissipation of energy and represent an alternativeSeveral sources provide relations to evaluate the dissipation as a function of slope and discharge and the stability of the rock used. In this work the results of tests performed in the flume of the Hydraulic Laboratory of the Civil Engineering Department of Pisa University are presented. The tests were conducted on a ramp of concrete spheres, having a diameter of 70 mm, in order to investigates the characteristics of ramp failure, to find the parts of the ramp less stable and to find some specific solutions to increase stability. Many tests were also carried out disposing cylinder piles with different density, in order to evaluate the effect on stability of these structures. Micropiles and wooden piles can be the choice for the design of these structures. The hydraulic characteristics of the flow over the ramp were also studied using a CFD model.
