Numerical Study on Navigation Channel Improvement Scheme in Huangpu River

Abstract: The characteristics of fluvial processes and the formation mechanism of deep quirks in the Wusongkou-Zhanghuabang reach of the Huangpu River are detected by the analysis of the hydrological and geological nature and the river bend feature. The effect of the navigation channel improvement scheme and its influence on the flow regimes, the navigational conditions, the flood control and the operating conditions of harbours within the adjacent water area are evaluated by use of a three-dimensional numerical model of flow motion, which has been shown to be efficient on the basis of a series of calibrations and validations. Furthermore, the technical feasibility of the navigation channel improvement scheme is demonstrated synthetically.
