Abstract: The rivers which cross largely-populated areas have always been considered an obstacle, mainly due to the good development of the road network. A good planning of this network is essential, but during its construction it is necessary to consider the consequences of the installation of some hydraulic works, either on the own river or on previous works which keep working adequately today. This article shows a case in the municipality of Las Rozas (Madrid), which offers the affection of a new water passage on the former ones. With this aim, the program HEC-RAS 3.0 was used (Hydrologic Engineering Center – River Analysis System of de U. S. Army Corps of Engineers), with which simulations of different hypotheses and alternatives were made. The main problem of this work was the silting overcome upstream, which even reached a drainage of a highway, facing the consequent risk. Through the analyses of speeds and hydraulic simulations, different alternatives were esteemed, aiming a reduction of the flood risk and a diminution of the sedimentation in the affected stream section.
