Abstract: A study was performed to determine river water temperature changes at a given location due to construction of a chain of hydro power plants (HPPs) in the upstream reach. During the input data analysis trends of decreasing of mean low discharges and of an increasing number of warm (max Ta ir > 25 oC) and hot (max T air > 30 oC) days have been established. Two mathematical models were applied for determination of river water temperatures before and after construction of a chain of HPPs: HOTRIVER and HOTCHAIN. Prior to final calculations a sensitivity analysis of the HOTCHAIN has been done which is also presented in the paper. Results of prognostic simulations are given for average hydrological and meteorological conditions as well as for critical conditions with longer return periods.
