Abstract: This paper describes the concept, implementation, and application of the Webbased hydroinformatics system ‘Turtle' for data monitoring, analysis, reporting, and management in field measurement programmes. The system uses a generalised objectoriented approach for information modelling by tensor classes and is implemented platformindependently as a Web application. This leads to a more flexible handling of measurement information during and after measurement programmes in a distributed and interdisciplinary environment based on the concept of information sharing. The potential and advantages of Web-based information systems like ‘Turtle' are described for a measurement programme dealing with the physical limnology of Lake Constance/Europe carried out in 2001.
