Abstract: A GA was used to inversely estimate the model input parameters in the field and regional applications. In the field application, soil water and ET were studied as search criteria. Soil water was more appropriate than ET in estimating the soil hydraulic parameters. ET, however, is more attractive for regional applications because it can be easily estimated from RS data. The second part of the paper discussed the application of GA in the regional scale. The worth of ET as search criterion in regional inverse modeling was stressed in the discussions.
