Abstract: In this paper, hydroinformatic methods and techniques for the simulation of 3D gas-water flow processes in the subsurface are presented. An overview is given of some tools which support the modelling process during the preprocessing, numerical simulation and postprocessing. These tools include CAD-systems, databases, mesh generators and visualisation programs which are required for all simulations of complex gas-water flow processes in the subsurface. All tools must be coupled in an efficient way to finally obtain reliable numerical results. This procedure is shown for methane-migration processes in an abandoned coal mining area.
