Abstract: The process of energy dissipation using falling jet in hydraulic structures is a common way when hydraulic jump stilling basins can not be used. The geometry of the jet and its hydraulic characteristics are the main factors affecting the process of energy dissipations and the design of its related structures. It is known that the geometry of the jet including the length of the jet and its break-up within the air or water, will directly determine the geometry of dissipating structure. In this paper experimental investigations of rectangular jets are studied in details. The results consist of the length of the jet, its maximum raising height and spread within the air.
