Abstract: An upwind numerical method for simulation of shallow recirculating flows with a variable topography in an unstructured grid is presented. This method simulates sub and super critical flows simultaneously with low numerical diffusion. In addition, it performs well in complicated topographies. Most available numerical methods in unstructured grids with "cell centered" arrangement face problems due to the incompatibility in variable topographies, between the discretization of “source” and “flux” terms. Most methods found in the literature consider only structured grids or mesh vertex unstructured grids, and usually have a high numerical diffusion in simulation of recirculating flows. The method that we present here overcomes the above-mentioned problems without introducing oscillations in the results.
