Abstract: The paper describes a comprehensive experimental programme for investigating dynamic behaviour of air valves, undertaken at WL | Delft Hydraulics, the Netherlands, by a consortium of researchers from 5 institutions (5 European countries) with the support of MRI Programme of EC. The large-scale experimental facilities and apparatus are shortly described. Four air-valve types of nominal diameter of 50 mm and 100 mm were tested on inclined and horizontal 500 mm and 200 mm test sections. An outline of the scope of the testing programme is given. An uncertaintly analysis of the tests is presented. Some experimental data of steady air-flow tests are presented and shortly analysed. The experimental data is planned to be stored in a database and thus will be available for public access.
