Educating Multidisciplinary Environmental Experts

Abstract: At the University of Oulu, Finland, environmental sciences and technology has been named as the fourth focus of research and education. The operation of this focus started in August 2001 and it concentrates on multidisciplinary environmental education of environmental experts like engineers. So far, a study program book has been prepared for the students to help in planning their personal study program for their degree. In the beginning of 2003, starts a multidisciplinary master program EnviroMaP which concentrates on environmental management. To support students aiming at doctoral degree on multidisciplinary environmental issues, a graduate net school EnviroNet has been launched. The focus Environmental Sciences and Technology aims to promote co-operation and good connections between academic education, research, working life, and business life. To support these actions, Environmental Sciences and Technology has two independent organizations, NorNet and NorTech Oulu.
