Abstract: Three types of Internet distance learning in the field of water resources are reviewed. The first is for the instruction of technicians or undergraduate students; the second is concerned with partial MS course programs on the Internet. The third one is to provide exceptional high quality coursework at an advanced level that would otherwise be impossible to provide locally. The emphasis is on this third alternative, which has been the object of a project directed by the authors. Some lessons derived from this experience are mentioned.
