Abstract: Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) is a robust, non-intrusive measurement technique that offers an interesting perspective on flow field characterization. It is an image-based technique that first offers flow visualization and subsequently flow quantification, two properties that make PIV a unique tool for students in water-related engineering education. To assist in such education, a facility that integrates the PIV technique for investigating simple problems in hydraulic research was recently introduced. The present paper discusses the PIV methodology, and its integration and application concerning the new educational facility.
