Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate selected capabilities of the threedimensional sequential electron acceptor model (SEAM3D). The analysis focuses on biodegradation of a single hydrocarbon using oxygen, nitrate, Fe~ (3+), sulfate, and CO_2 (for methanogenesis) as electron acceptors. For comparison, additional simulations are made using oxygen as the sole electron acceptor. Numerical results show that relative to no biodegradation or aerobic biodecay alone, biodegradation based on sequential electron acceptors resulted in less contaminant mass and migration.
