Abstract: Two studies associated with fish passage at Red Bluff Diversion Dam (RBDD) have recently been completed by the U. S. Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), Water Resources Research Laboratory. These studies include field and laboratory investigations which have been conducted to identify hydraulic performance features associated with the existing fish passage facilities and to evaluate the potential for improving fish passage at RBDD through enlarged ladders. A detailed field evaluation was completed in August 1996 which identifies hydraulic performance deficiencies associated with the existing right abutment fish ladder. In addition, laboratory physical model investigations have been completed to address the potential for improving fish passage through enlarged fish ladders at RBDD. Both studies provide critical information and will be used by the Interagency Fisheries Work Group (IFWG) in the decision making process regarding short and long term solutions to the current fish passage problems at RBDD.
