Abstract: One of the important parameters affecting the performance of chute spillway aerators is the impact angle of the jet as it reattaches to the surface of the spillway. In this experimental study, the impact angle was increased by installing false beds on the invert of a 1:15 scale model. Results of the tests showed that by increasing the impact angle, the flow rate of air supplied by ducts decreased and the pressure beneath the nappe rose towards atmospheric pressure. A greater recirculation of air in the cavity under the jet was believed to be the main agent of these effects.
