Abstract: In the following article the basic characteristics of Slovenian water environment, ways of managing these natural resources, experiences of introducing various organizational forms as well as guidelines for the future are presented. In the framework of current continental legislation, state Appropriation Principle regarding waters has been adopted along with the introduction of concession system. With regard to technical-technological views, activities for further accommodation to current standards (directives) and the foreseen EU water policy are well under way.
