Abstract: Stream channel restorations are generally undertaken for a variety of reasons, including to improve ecological habitat, recreate natural alluvial features, restore the environmental value of engineered artificial waterways or degraded streams, alleviate flooding, and stabilize unstable channels, particularly near highways and highway structures. Uncertainty in the restoration design can result in an unstable channel that is subject to erosion and/or depostion and which can threaten the safety of bridges, culverts, and roadways, as well as creating a poor aquatic habitat.
