Abstract: Flood control works in the Sacramento River Valley have eliminated most of the valley's flood basin storage. Under natural conditions, basin storage and release reduced valley outflow (relative to inflow) from November through March and increased valley outflow (relative to inflow) from March through July. Elimination of the basins has resulted in increased winter and reduced spring and summer valley outflows (relative to inflow).
