Abstract: A flexible irrigation water supply is important first and foremost to the farmer Flexible supplies mean that a farmer can grow crops efficiently and economically to compete in a world wide market place. Irrigation water supply systems should be designed and operated to meet the needs of the farmer not the convenience of the operator. Flexible water supplies mean that the educated farmer can choose almost any means of on-farm irrigation practice and be nearly equally efficient. With a flexible supply efficiency depends upon the complexity of the on-farm system, the level of care and the amount of labor the farmer chooses to add to the effort.
