Abstract: In this paper, a physical approach is presented in order to model the water flow in the soil and the transfer in the soil-plant-atmosphere system of a distributed conceptual hydrologic model. It is based on the resolution of Richards' Equation applied to the unsaturated zone of the soil. Groundwater flow is simulated by an exponential law. Water fluxes in the soil-vegetation-atmosphere system take into account soil surface changes (vegetated soil, bare soil, etc.). Those could be supplied by remote-sensing. This approach has been validated by means of comparison with data measured at both experimental plot scale and representative and experimental catchment scale, where physical characteristics as porosity, soil granulometric composition and soil use are known.
