Abstract: Characterization and quantification of mixing in municipal water supply reservoirs is needed in modeling distribution system water quality. Reservoir geometry and inlet/outlet location and operation effects on mixing were studied using a field test, simple analytical models, and a computational fluid dynamic (CFD) simulation. Ratios, tm/T, of mixing time, tm, to residence time, T for which this tank (and others) will respond as a completely stirred reactor (CSR) are determined.
