Abstract: Particle image velocimetry (PIV) offers possibilities for detailed measure-ments in dilute particulate flows. Initial experiences in such an application are discussed. Preliminary results from a simple flow configuration, name-ly, sand particles either in isolation or in clusters, settling in otherwise still water, are presented.
